More information
The British Medical Pilots Association was founded in 1966 to provide a forum for academic and social interchange between professional colleagues with an interest in aviation. The Association aims to promote improved knowledge of aviation medicine and high standards of safety in the aviation environment.
Membership is open to any member of the medical, dental, or veterinary community, qualified or in training, who holds or has held a flying licence. Civil Aviation Authority approved Authorised Medical Examiners are also eligible to join.
Meetings
Several meetings are held throughout the year with an aeromedical theme including academic events and flying activities. The main meetings are in early spring and September and are held at various locations.
The spring meeting is the main academic meeting and various types of post graduate approval are sought, which traditionally have been granted. These have included CME, PGEA, and CAA approval.
The September meeting is centred on an airfield and members are encouraged to fly in to this. As an incentive to encourage flying to the meetings, the Association subsidises airfield charges.
Other meetings are arranged throughout the year, involving a range of aviation related activities.
Members are encouraged to bring guests to the meetings.
Affiliations
The Association is a corporate member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and a member of the General Aviation Safety Council. Close links are also maintained with our sister organisations in France and Germany, L’Association Aeromedical and The German Flying Physicians. Members are encouraged to attend European meetings where possible.
Subscription
The annual subscription is £15.00, to be paid on 1st April each year. This fee is waived for medical students during their training towards their primary professional qualification.
