The British Medical Pilots Association was founded in 1966 to provide a forum for academic and social interchange between professional colleagues with an interest in aviation. The Association aims to promote improved knowledge of aviation medicine and high standards of safety in the aviation environment.

Membership is open to any member of the medical, dental, or veterinary community, qualified or in training, who holds or has held a flying licence. Civil Aviation Authority approved AMEs are also eligible.

Subscription is currently £15 per annum payable by direct debit via GoCardless in April. This fee is waived for students during training towards their primary professional qualification.

The Association is a corporate member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and until its demise contributed towards funding the General Aviation Safety Committee (GASCo).

The association currently holds two meetings a year. There is a brief history of the BMPA available, including details of past officers of the association and previous meetings.
